Project Description
!!!!!SOLD!!!!! This is a 1/5 scale Colt 1911 A1 made of solid 14 karat gold with fanch sterling silver grips by master jeweler Alex Baez of California. Alex passed away about 3 years ago. 1 3/4″ long overall with a 3/4″ barrel of about .068 caliber. All the parts are solid 14 karat gold, except for the steel springs, the sterling silver grips, and the brass grip screws. These pieces are normally fully functional and will feed, chamber, extract, and eject dummy cartridges, but unfortunately no dummy cartridges are included. These miniatures have all of the parts of a full size Colt 1911 A1 except there are no grip screw bushings. The hammer cocks when the slide is retracted & is released when the trigger is pulled. The piece has been played with a lot, which has worn some of the soft 14 karat gold parts, so the slide stop & safeties no longer work. The rear of the slide properly serrated on each side, as the slide release. The mainspring housing, hammer spur, barrel bushing bushing, and magazine release are checkered. The sterling silver grips are held in place by two brass screws on each side. The grips showing high relief saddle surrounded by a horse shoe with scrolls at the top & bottom. This piece was made by Alex after Herschel Kopp passed away, so does not have any markings. Includes a nice walnut hinged top case with flip latch. The interior bottom French fit and lined in gold/brown felt. The interior top padded & lined in the same felt. The case top shows evidence of a previous plaque which is now missing. The case bottom lined in a thin sheet of cork. The pistol weighs .7 ounce. With gold at about $3,390.00/ounce today (6/18/2025), that calculates to over $1,250.00 just in gold value alone! This would normally sell for about $3,500.00, but because of the non-working safeties & slide stop, I’ve priced it accordingly. Sold “AS – IS”, no refunds or exchanges. Stock # PB-01. !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
