This is a 1/4 scale Winchester 1866 carbine made by master jeweler Alex Baez of Los Angeles, California. 9 7/8″ long overall with a 5″ octagon barrel of about .088 caliber. The receiver, sideplates, cartridge lifter, buttplate, buttplate trap door, & screws are brass. The balance of the parts are blued steel. The stock & forearm are very black ebony. The sides of the frame and both sideplates are very elaborately & beautifully deep relief background engraved, most likely by Alex himself. Serrated hammer spur. Two leaf folding carbine rear sight. Cleaning rod trapdoor in the buttplate. Fully functional with the exception of the magazine which looks to have no spring or follower which is typical for Alex’s Winchesters. 99% condition with just some expected tarnish to the brass. This is the only engraved Baez 1866 Winchester I have ever seen. Alex passed away in May of 2019, so it’s possible his miniatures will see a rise in value. Price: $3,500.00.
