Project Description
This is a cased pair of 1/2 scale Perazzi MX-8 SCO ORO superposed shotguns made by Perugini & Visini in Italy about 30 – 35 years ago. They were actually made solely by Mr. Perugini in his free hours before work, at lunch, and after work. I had the pleasure to visit the Perugini Visini facility in Italy two years ago to learn the history of these fantastic miniature shotguns directly from Mr. Perugini. They are both engraved and gold inlaid by Carlo Pazotti, who was a factory engraver for Perazzi. Each miniature shotgun is 22 3/8″ long overall with 14 1/16″ The barrels of about barrels of .302 bore. These fabulous miniature shotguns feature a single selective trigger, selective ejectors, and easily removable & replaceable drop trigger & hammer assemblies.
Shotgun 1:
There are eleven highly detailed engraved gold inlaid game scenes showing five ducks left sideplate, five geese on the right sideplate, and a dog with a duck in it’s mouth on the bottom of the receiver. Incredible highly figured French walnut buttstock & forearm with hand checkering at the forearm, buttstock wrist, and butt. The bank note engraving is just mind blowing. The balance of the sideplates, receiver, triggerguard, & top tang elaborately engraved with scrolls, flowers, & border detailing. Gold plated trigger, orange ray bar front sight. The safe marking inlaid in gold & marked “BLOCCATO”. 100% fully functional!
Shotgun 2:
There are nine highly detailed engraved gold inlaid game scenes showing four flying quail left sideplate, two quail & two pointing dogs on the right sideplate, and a dog with a quail in it’s mouth on the bottom of the receiver. The safety marking inlaid in gold & marked “BLOCCATO”. Only a handful of these were made about 30 – 35 years ago, & this is the only cased pair ever made. Interestingly enough, this is the third time I’ve had the pleasure to offer this set of sale in my 30+ years in the business, the last time was about 15 years ago. Three of these miniature beauties are featured in the book “The Art of Miniature Firearms – Centuries of Craftsmanship”, a single on pages 58, & this exact pair on pages 62 & 63. Near mint condition showing only a couple very minor dings in the buttstock of one. I will let the included photos tell the rest of the story. I’ve sold a couple single cased miniatures like this, but haven’t had one since 2019. These miniatures have a box lock action, but have sideplates like a sidelock to give more area for engraving and gold inlays. The action is cocked upon opening. When one barrel is fired, the inertia resets the trigger for the second barrel. You can simulate this by dry firing the miniature, then bumping the buttstock firmly against your palm, then fire the second barrel. A full size Perazzi of this quality will set you back about $35K new, or $15K – $28K used. A similar full size Perazzi recently sold for $14.75K in a Rock Island Auction, and another, almost exactly like one oif these miniatures was for sale in James Julia’s past auction estimated at $18K – $28K. This miniature is a factor of 8 times more difficult to build and engrave than one in full size!
