Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is a full size percussion single shot coach or buggy shotgun made by Morgan Rees.  30 5/16″ long overall with a 15 3/4″ barrel of .580 diameter.  The barrel with a steel under rib supporting the ramrod.  This works out to be a little bigger than a 28 gauge.  This is a very high end high quality piece.  The metal parts are a nice smooth steel gray with some minor patches of brown staining and some very minor pitting.  The lock plate is expertly engraved with what looks to be pheasants or partridges, along with scroll, vine, & nice border details, and the name Morgan Rees.  The hammer likewise expertly engraved with the likeness of a scaled fish along with scrolls.  The breach end of the barrel, the upper tang, the triggerguard, the wedge escutcheons, the rear ramrod thimble, the buttplate and the screw heads likewise engraved.  The one piece walnut stock is finely checkered at the forearm and the wrist. Steel bead front sight.  There is a German silver oval escutcheon inlaid into the bottom of the stock between the rear of the checkering and the buttplate toe.  The stock shows about 90% of  a high gloss varnish, and shows numerous small handling marks.  Hickory ramrod with a brass tip. The wood end showing some minor damage.  There is a proof mark on the left side of the barrel near the wedge, and another on the bottom of the barrel concealed by the stock.  A really pretty and dainty little shotgun probably carried by a rather wealthy gentleman as protection & to harvest the occasional bird or rabbit for supper!  From the personal collection of Joel Morrow.  Stock # JM-07.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
