Project Description

!!!!!SOLD!!!!!  This is an extremely rare antique 10 gauge bronze signal cannon made by The Levigne & Scott Mfg. Co., circa 1888.  The top of the breech is faintly marked “The Levigne & Scott Mfg. Co., New Haven, Conn., Hartley & Graham, Sole Agents, New York”, in five lines.  14″ long overall.  The barrel measures 13″ long overall, 9 3/4″ from the sliding breech.  The bore is .771 caliber.  This is an interesting sliding breech design with the breech manually sliding to the left to expose the chamber.  On the bottom of the barrel below the cascabel is a “T” shaped handle that is pulled rearward to extract the fired cartridge.  There is a adjustable screw elevator mounted to the carriage for adjusting the elevation of the muzzle.  The cannon is fired by pulling sharply on the included cloth lanyard.  The barrel, breech, and all hardware are bronze.  The carriage looks to be rosewood, although it may be dark aged walnut.  The bottom of the carriage is stamped “30”.  Excellent condition considering it’s age.  The cannon is intact, all original, and in firing condition.  This would fire a 10 gauge black powder blank cartridge.  This is the first one of these I have ever seen.  I know of two others, but both have condition issues and are missing parts.  !!!!!SOLD!!!!!
