Little-45-pair-1.JPG

This is an original factory cased pair of "Little .45" made in the mid 1950's by the American Miniature Gun Mfg. Co. of Hollywood, Calif.  I have seen several factory cased pairs over the years, but this is the first pair I've ever seen with consecutive serial numbers.  Described in Bob Urso's book, The Tiniest Guns, Third Edition, and used with permission.

"Manufactured by the American Miniature Gun Mfg. Co. of Hollywood, California, and marketed as the Frontier "45".  On much of it's literature it was also referenced to as the "Little .45".  A difficult to classify miniature, although modeled after the Colt Frontier Single Action Army revolver, it is not a true miniature of that gun.  The Frontier "45" is a six shot, single action, revolver with a hand rotated cylinder.  At 3 1/2" OAL, this little beauty is much nicer than a toy, but not quite a true miniature.  Manufactured in the 1950's it has more detail, and is more functional than the best of the toy miniatures.  It's barrel (cylinder) rotates.  It has half and full cock.  It has a flip down, side loading gate, and fires brass, percussion cap-like ammunition.  Expended shells (caps) are ejected with a functioning spring loaded ejector, just like on the real thing.  It is unusual in that the complete trigger guard acts as its trigger and is pulled back to fire.  ...  The clean finish on these guns suggest that they are sturdy little pieces.  They were however, cast in pot metal.  It is the care that was taken in finishing these guns that makes them look more substantial than they actually are.  ...  This is a popular gun with collectors and a relatively difficult gun to find."

This set is complete with the original walnut casing hinged top casing.  The bottom French fit in black velvet.  Also includes the plastic bullet cap container, and five original caps.  The plastic bullet shaped cap container is unusual in that the bullet and about 2/5 of the case are painted silver with the balance of the case a copper color.  The two pistols are serial numbered 2870 and 2871 on the bottom of the frame.  They are both in near mint condition and shows no signs of ever being fired except for on the nipples.  99% of the original nickel finish remains and the mother of pearl grips are perfect.  The plastic cartridge case has several small case mouth split.

Muff-pistol-pr-gold-case-1.JPG

This is a matched pair of the smallest antique miniature screw barrel drop trigger muff pistols that I have ever seen.  Measuring only a diminutive 1.45" long overall, the barrels measure .411" long and have a bore diameter  of only .063 caliber.  These have the square bore at the muzzle so they can be unscrewed with a proper square wrench and also so they can be used to wind the old antique key wind pocket watches.  Both are gold plated, un-engraved, and have one piece ivory grips.  Both have a hanging ring on the rear tang behind the hammer.  Both have fluted barrels.  Both are mechanically perfect, and I would rate the pair at 95% original condition, both showing only minor wear to the gold plating at the sharp edges.  Includes a period walnut casing with sterling silver eagle flask.  The case with silver hinges and clasp.  I have seen one other of these that might have been this small, and he wanted what I want for the pair for his single.  Maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity to get such a small pair in such pristine condition!
